Welcome everyone! Here we are, just getting started. I guess, since we are only beginning our research and are nowhere near done, SOSM Staff may as well be introduced here.
Let me tell you, we are by no means professional, or even graduates, but followers of the philosophy: Anyone can make a difference. We are young yet passionate about our future.
Here is the basis of the problem we are fighting to help solve:
A germ, called T. Gondii, has made its way through diminishing wetlands, Earth's buffers, and into our seas. This is infecting our sea mammals, and killing them, including dolphins, whales, sea otters, and seals. This could potentially be resistant to antibiotics, and it may one day come back and infect the human race. If we don't do something, this could be the new Avian Flu.
Now to the promised introductions.
I am Eclipse, the team's founder. I'm nobody special: not popular, not the prettiest person in the world (but thankfully not the ugliest), I don't follow the latest trends, but one thing that I actually am is passionate for science. My dream is to be an astrophysicist, but in the meantime, there is this problem that needs some work.
Now Eclipse from my view. Now this person has changed my life once she walked in that door in fourth grade, and I'm happy about how my school life is now. In elementary school, I thought the time you went outside was just a waste of time, but not that this one person came in, I wanted even more of that free time outside. Eclipse is a very smart person indeed and cares about nature lots, just like the rest of us.
My co-founder, Demon, has been my best friend since 4th grade. Again, she isn't too special, but if you haven't seen her drawings... Let's just say you need to. She is concerned with the fate of the world's animals, including polar bears (which are predicted to go extinct soon!) and, of course, sea mammals such as dolphins.
Ahm, allow me to introduce myself. As you all know I am Demon, the co-founder ya da da-da da. Yes, I have known Eclipse since fourth, I'm not that special, and misunderstood most of the time. I created the little comic/movie kinda thing and MAN! Did it take up lots to time, but I had nothing to do so it was okay.
Nightshade isn't particularly popular, but much more so than Demon or I. She's funny, artistic, and yet another close friend of mine. She agreed to help Demon and I (so long as she got Oreo cookies). Anyone have some?
Well... I'll admit that Nightshade can be a little annoying from time to time, but she makes that up with good jokes that cheers us all up. I don't have any oreo cookies at this time... So maybe an internet muffin instead???
Nightfury is the one guy in the group. He mysteriously sits with us at lunch everyday, and from what Demon says, he can make wonderful Powerpoints and Prezis. Therefore, he'll be responsible for some of those.
Snowy and Shocker are the research buddies. They'll be responsible for typing many of the informative articles here together.
So, SOSM may be new, but watch us rise!
